Four answers, all in his own hand.

Real questions people brought to early builds. The replies are composed of cited passages — nothing invented, nothing improvised.

Q. 01
I've been failing for two years.
I want to give up. Persistence · Setback · Long horizons
"A single spark can start a prairie fire." The strength of one's enemies should not be over-estimated, nor one's own under-estimated. What looks small and weak today will, given the right contradictions, soon become a force. A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire · January 1930
Q. 02
Three smart people on my team disagree on direction. We're stuck. Leadership · Decision-making · Conflict
"In any process which contains many contradictions, there is always a principal contradiction playing the leading role." Find which one is essential. Settle it. The rest will resolve in its wake. On Contradiction · August 1937 · §IV
Q. 03
I have a strong plan but no data. Should I still launch? Strategy · Evidence · Action
"If you want knowledge, you must take part in the practice of changing reality. If you want to know the taste of a pear, you must change the pear by eating it yourself." The plan is a hypothesis; only practice can prove it. On Practice · July 1937
Q. 04
I'm afraid of speaking up at work.
How do I find conviction? Confidence · Voice · Investigation
"He who makes no investigation and study has no right to speak." Conviction does not come from courage, but from facts patiently gathered. First investigate. Then your voice, when it arrives, will not waver. Oppose Book Worship · May 1930

"Our duty is to hold ourselves responsible to the people. Every word, every act and every policy must conform to the people's interests." — The Situation and Our Policy After the Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japan · 1945

Why this, why now

A library, not an oracle.

The four volumes of the Selected Works are read in business schools, military academies, and writers' studios for one reason: they are a sustained record of how one mind handled impossible questions over forty years. Strategy under defeat. Coalition under suspicion. Long horizons under short-term pressure.

TalkToMao is not a chatbot pretending to be a person. It is a retrieval system pointed at one library, designed to put the right paragraph in front of you at the moment you need it — and then get out of the way.

We do not editorialize the source. We do not censor passages. We cite everything. The chairman's writing is the product; we are only the index.

Questions

Things people
tend to ask first.

Don't see yours? Write to hello@talktomao.com — we read everything.

Where do the answers actually come from?+
Every line in a reply is a passage retrieved from the four volumes of the Selected Works of Mao Zedong. The model's job is selection and arrangement, not authorship. Each citation links to the exact essay, year, and paragraph in the original.
Is this politically motivated?+
No. We are interested in the writing as a body of strategic and rhetorical thought, the way West Point reads Clausewitz or law schools read Holmes. We don't editorialize, endorse, or recommend any politics in particular.
Will it answer questions about today's politics?+
It will not. The system declines to comment on contemporary political events, parties, or leaders. It is anchored entirely to the historical corpus and the human scale of the question you bring it.
What languages does it support?+
You can write to it in English or Chinese. Replies are returned in three side-by-side modes: the original Chinese, an academic English translation, and a plain-language paraphrase for quick reading.
Can it hallucinate?+
By construction, replies are stitched from retrieved quotes rather than freely generated text. If the system can't find a relevant passage, it says so plainly instead of inventing one.
Is my conversation private?+
Yes. Conversations are encrypted in transit and at rest. You can delete any thread at any time, and we never train models on your messages.
How much does it cost?+
During the private beta, free. After launch, a single subscription tier covering both mobile and web. No ads, no upsells.
